Neuro-Optimization Therapy and Coaching
What is Neuro-OptimizationTM Therapy and Coaching?
Neuro-OptimizationTM Therapy, as practiced at the Lifetime Optimization Clinic, is an eclectic therapeutic approach heavily influenced by NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) and Brief Therapy. (It also incorporates elements of Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, and Exposure Therapy).
What that means – Less “Talk”
At its core, Neuro-OptimizationTM Therapy is a flexible approach to teaching and empowering you to impact your mood, beliefs, and behaviors. It also has the advantage that it does not take the traditional “Talk Therapy” approach that requires you to recount the trauma or “causes” of your situation in order to help you feel better and change your life.
All the elements of Neuro-OptimizationTM Therapy, taken alone, have been shown to be effective for various clients. Generally speaking, all therapy works some of the time, but some methods are supported by research as being particularly effective with some conditions, e.g. Exposure Therapy and CBT for PTSD. Neuro-Optimization Therapy uses the evidence- based elements in a targeted manner with the particular conditions. The elements are combined for maximal effectiveness and client experience. For example, Imaginal Exposure Therapy for PTSD is effective, but requires the client to verbally recount the trauma repeatedly. By adding NLP strategies to the Imaginal Exposure method, results can be achieved without the recounting of the event.
Why are these methods so much more powerful at Lifetime Optimization than in other settings?
In one phrase – “brain based.” A brain that is balancing and self-regulating is experienced as a mind that is open to growth, able to create empowering new patterns, and avoid self-sabotage. When your brain is balanced, you experience yourself as more of your “true self,” ready to take action! Neuro-Optimization uses brain-based strategies to support the new brain patterns.
Therapy or Coaching?
Neuro-OptimizationTM Coaching is a Life Coaching method using strategies from Neuro-Optimization Therapy. It is provided instead of the therapy in situations where there is not a mental health diagnosis. It also benefits from the Brainwave Optimization; the client and the coach can use the client’s experience of a “new brain” and a “new life,” to create a plan for that new life. The coach uses best coaching standards and practices, including goal setting, accountability, and development of new habits, to “lock in” the gains, and set the framework for continued growth.
Can’t Brainwave Optimization stand by itself?
Many individuals experience significant, life-changing results just from having a balanced and self-regulating brain, but there are two reasons why we always combine it with at least 3 free sessions of either therapy or coaching.
1) It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up! When individuals feel like they have a “new lease on life,” it is the perfect time to teach them how to condition those changes, reflect them in their behavior intentionally, and create an environment that supports the changes. The brain and life experience create a feedback loop, each affecting the other. Therapy and coaching give the client tools to create a sustainable, positive loop.
2) Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ is intended to balance and harmonize brain waves through relaxation and self-regulation, and is not intended to treat, cure, heal or diagnose any disease, mental illness or symptom. All treatment is provided by Lifetime Optimization’s licensed mental health professionals, after the Brainwave Optimization.TM
